How often do you bring your car into service or go to the doctor for a health physical? Those are things that should be done on a regular basis in order to be in optimal shape, and it’s no different for sports flooring.
There are other factors that affect the condition of a floor aside from the day-to-day wear and tear. Climate, weather and a building’s structure also have a crucial impact on a flooring system. Milburn appreciates the value of a partnership, and they were looking for a way to give more to customers. As the saying goes, knowledge is power and that is what their new initiative is about. Milburn’s Sports Flooring Director, Bill Frohnhoefer came up with a free service called the Sports Flooring Initiative. In his 16 years of dedication to the sports flooring industry, he has seen countless scenarios where damage could have been avoided if the floor had been periodically checked by a professional. This recommended service is meant to help customers stay in front of any issues or simply suggest a maintenance plan to get the most out of their flooring system.
The initiative begins with a Milburn Flooring professional being called to visit a facility and completely analyzes the floor on scene.
They will measure the entire square footage and game lines, take record of the current conditions including the logo, stain and paint. They assess room to room transitions and photograph its present state. The information is reviewed, and an evaluation is provided leaving the next steps in the hands of the customer to factor into the future of the facility.
There are standard recommendations that are helpful to know. For instance, the Maple Flooring Manufacturers Association (MFMA) recommends applying a new screen and recoat every year. Every 10 years it’s recommended to sand and finish and provide fresh color to logos and game lines.
The benefit of Milburn’s Sports Flooring Initiative is that they share in the responsibility of protecting their customers investment, reminding them when it is time to maintain the floor or if they reach a critical point in the life of the floor, and then provide recommendations. If a customer wishes to move forward on a project with Milburn Flooring all the measurements and knowledge of the workspace is already in their system, allowing the job to start faster and for products and materials to be ordered quicker. This free initiative does nothing but provide customers with more of an insight into the current state of their flooring system and allows Milburn to serve as a pro-active partner when services are needed.
