Anything worth doing is worth doing right and that’s why Milburn Flooring saw value in dedicating a crew to focus solely on the first stage of a floor installation. They are calling them Prep Crews and have tasked two teams with making sure every job begins with detailed and top-notch preparation before an installation happens. Most flooring failures are due to moisture in some way shape or form and having a specialized team create an optimal workspace to perform an installation is another way to protect their customers investment.
Prepping a surface for a floor covering consists of critical services that impact the overall life and longevity of a floor. One of these services is called Moisture Testing. It is extremely important to test any newly poured concrete slab prior to a floor installation. While concrete is a common foundation, it takes a long time to cure and dry. This can pose a problem if a resilient floor finish is installed on top of an insufficiently dry slab. It can cause future bubbling or buckling. The Prep Crew conducts moisture testing, which measures the relative humidity and how much moisture is being emitted back into the air. If the results are high, the Prep Crew then has the ability to perform another service called mitigation. Mitigation prevents water vapor from coming through the slab and protects against poor performance of a resilient floor finish. The floor is ground and covered with a two-part epoxy or paintable acrylic layer. This layer traps the moisture and prevents moisture vaper emission.
After moisture has been addressed the Prep Crew offers a service called self-leveling. This is most important to the overall appearance of the floor covering. Self-leveling underlayment is a small amount of poured cement on top of a primer. The fluid will naturally fill in any rollercoaster effects a concrete slab may have. The floor will have a smooth and level grade across the entire floor that looks notably better than hand-patching.
Having a crew that is dedicated to the early phase of a job installation not only ensures that experts are performing a critical part of preparing a floor but that every Milburn Flooring installation began under optimal conditions leaving customers with an exceptional flooring job that will last for a long time.
