George F. Baker High School educates students from grades 6 through 12 in the town of Tuxedo, NY. Last February, a pipe burst on the first floor, prompting immediate High School flood remediation by RENU. The building areas that required replacement due to the flood damage included the hallways, cafeteria, bathrooms, ceilings, and auditorium stage.
Built in 1931, the building had historical elements and old Victorian charm that were essential to preserve. RENU worked closely with the school and architect on key decisions. Each tile was cut ahead of time, and the preservation of the 45-degree herringbone pattern in the main entrance was implemented using Mannington Amtico Spacia Stone colors Mirabelle Crème, Kura Fennel, and Stria Vocanic. Milburn’s experts, experienced in specialty installations, replaced 10,000 sq. ft. with Mannington LVT in the corridors and cafeteria, retiled several bathrooms, and replaced the auditorium stage wood floor. A Marley flooring system was installed to accommodate all levels of dance and production for the theater arts program.
Through careful planning and execution, RENU and Milburn completed the High School flood remediation project right before the first day of school. The school district praised the work, saying, “RENU saved the day,” restoring the building to better condition than before the flood.
