Bringing Nature Indoors

Valhalla High School library represents an impeccable collaboration between RENU Contracting Restoration and Milburn Flooring. The 5,000 sq. ft. library renovation was completed in December. RENU’s Director of Westchester Operations in Project Management, Mike Lugo worked alongside KG&D Architects’ Susan Davidson, Associate AIA, Associate Principal – Director of Interior Designer and Valhalla’s Facility Director, Peter Kelly to come up with a unique and modern design concept to inspire students and ignite a desire to utilize this learning space. Milburn Flooring’s Project Manager Andrew Pauwels was instrumental in executing the floor installation and managing the job site to its remarkable completion.

RENU tackled demolition, ceiling replacement, framing, painting, and installing sheet rock and intricate lighting fixtures. Milburn Flooring took on the compelling aspect of this project producing an exceptional floor design that brings natural landscapes into the built environment using ShawContract®’s Shifting Fields Collection. Installing three styles within this collection called Landing Edge Tile, Landing Tile, and Plains Tile Milburn was able to define space by creating transitions, zoning, visual ques, and boundaries. Another collection from ShawContract® that was used to transition to a quieter energy for conference areas was called The Park, Drift Tile style. This was a 4-zone install using the brick installation method. It was imperative for installers to be precise with their measurements and installation technique so each collection would blend and transition effortlessly into the other for a cohesive and pleasant final look. This was an exciting project to see come to fruition as a space successful in bringing the natural changes we experience in the outside world to the inside.
