Milburn Flooring’s wood floor division has been busy maintaining schools in Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Westchester. From classrooms, auditorium stages, and gym floors, Milburn performs every aspect of wood floor installations. A complete Milburn Flooring gym floor replacement requires several steps, beginning with rip-up, which they conduct following strict OSHA guidelines. Milburn also performs self-leveling and grinding services to optimize the overall performance of the floor. Self-leveling and/or grinding concrete ensures a flat surface, which is essential for building a level gymnasium floor.
They offer custom sub-flooring options that create a level surface and provide even shock absorption, eliminating dead spots. “Floating Floors” are primarily installed atop the concrete sub-floor with several layers that enhance performance, including a moisture barrier, rubber padding, plywood, and hardwood. The term “Floating Floors” refers to a method of installation that is not permanently affixed to the concrete sub-floor, allowing for expansion. Milburn highly recommends Floating Floor systems because of the temperature and humidity changes inherent in Long Island and the tri-state area. So far this year, Milburn’s team has tackled 25 new gymnasium installations. A typical Milburn Flooring gym floor replacement takes 3–4 weeks. Newfield High School, Huntington High School, Unity Drive, Bayshore YMCA, and JFK Middle School are just a few of the gym floors Milburn Flooring completed this year.
Aside from all the gymnasium work in school buildings, these services were applied to other areas, specifically auditorium stages and classrooms. Hardwood was installed in seven classrooms where a full replacement was needed due to flood damage. RENU’s restoration team assisted with remediation and removal while Milburn replaced the floor. Although classrooms are rare for hardwood systems, it was essential here to preserve a historical look consistent with the rest of the building. Milburn is accustomed to handling unique requests or specific needs and always approaches each job with a fresh perspective to provide quality service. All employees are OSHA safety certified and strive to make every worksite safe, not only for job site workers but also for the occupants of the buildings. They are experts at working in occupied spaces and can foresee and mitigate potential issues from their decades of experience.
