The water utility headquarters in Locust Valley, New York, established in the 1920s, recently underwent a extensive renovation led by the RENU team. This restoration aimed to modernize the building, aligning it with the evolving needs of its workforce. While originally serving as the primary office space, the building had become too small to accommodate the growing staff, necessitating an expansion. The expansion transformed a five-bay garage adjacent to the existing main office, which was no longer required for vehicle maintenance, into a functional office space for the water district team.
The converted space now contains a private office, an open office area, a conference room, a water sampling area, a kitchen, a new bathroom, an IT room, and a storage/file room. The exterior of the building was enhanced with stucco and meticulous architectural detailing, including window trim and crown molding to seamlessly integrate with the historic structure. The entire building received a fresh coat of paint, further enhancing its overall aesthetic.
Concrete foundations were poured to enclose the garage bays, and the outdated “yankee gutter” system was replaced with modern commercial gutters and leaders. Rotting roof fascia molding was swapped out for durable Azek trims and fascia boards. This renovation allowed the building to retain its historic charm while offering a more efficient and contemporary interior layout.
