Following weeks of planning, RENU successfully mobilized resources to address a historic church steeple repair at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in East Islip. The task at hand involved the removal and subsequent reinstallation of the church’s iconic cross steeple, which had succumbed to the wear and tear of time and the unforgiving elements.
Over the years, the cross had become misaligned, its once-imposing form altered by weather and relentless high winds. Recognizing the pressing safety concern, a concerned member of St. Mary’s Church reached out to RENU, fearing the imminent risk of the cross dislodging and causing harm.
RENU assembled a dedicated team capable of executing the delicate operation of removing, repairing, and reinstalling the cross. Notably, the job presented considerable challenges, as RENU had to rely on photographs provided by the East Islip Fire Department to assess the cross’s condition, having never physically examined it before.
It wasn’t until RENU’s boom lift was on-site that the true extent of the task became clear, and a plan was confirmed. Given the considerable height of the cross, creating a strategy for the necessary repairs proved to be a formidable challenge. Nonetheless, RENU embraced the opportunity to contribute to the historic church steeple repair, ensuring both the preservation of this sacred symbol and the prevention of potential accidents.
